SOLUTIONS IN SIGHT SOFTWARE FOR EYECARE -
A breakthrough treatment to combat Computer Vision Syndrome(Toronto) - Vision care specialists Eye2Eye Inc. today introduced Solutions In Sight, the first comprehensive visual ergonomic software and remedial treatment program alleviating Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). CVS is a potentially serious health, comfort and productivity risk for millions of computer users worldwide, costing over a billion dollars a year in medical care, according to the American Optometric Association.
"This program allows CVS sufferers to self-administer an economical, preventative and therapeutic solution to VDT-related symptoms. Solutions In Sight maximizes a computer user's visual comfort, enabling them to spend healthier, more productive and enjoyable time at their computer," explains Eye2Eye's Dennis Ruskin B.A., O.D., F.A.A.O., who with Brian S. Feldman, B.Sc., O.D., developed Solutions In Sight after years of treating thousands of CVS patients. "For most computer workers, their vision is their livelihood and medical research proves that the majority of them will require some form of eyecare treatment if they do not take appropriate precautions."
In 1994, employees and vision care benefits supplied by employers spent over a billion dollars on eye examinations and computer-specific glasses for computer use. Medical research proves that even minimal levels of visual degradation can decrease work performance by 4-19%, which equates to $1,200-$5,700 in work deficiency for a $30,000 a year employee.
"Computers are an essential business tool today and every company's objective is to introduce ways to reduce expenses, improve productivity and enhance the bottom line," says Dr. Feldman. "Implementing a program to solve computer-related eye and vision problems is a sound business investment."
The Solutions In Sight system is comprised of four distinct software programs that help relieve such common CVS symptoms as blurry vision, dry, red and burning eyes, and headaches. Individually personalized programs prompt regular vision breaks and the application of FDA-approved, non-prescription eye drops. Users are able to scientifically select and save eight of their most comfortable screen color schemes for their computer's background and text display, and change between them while they work or play.
The Solutions In Sight system also includes information explaining CVS treatment methods through the use of proper lighting techniques, optimum viewing distances and the ideal ergonomic design of computer workstations to prevent poor posture that results in neck, shoulder and back pain.

NEW CANADIAN RESEARCH CONFIRMS VISION PROBLEMS AS PREVALENT AS REPETITIVE STRAIN INJURIES IN COMPUTER USERS
Toronto doctors' presentation to international Conference on Human-Computer Interaction echoes cautionary Oslo study.
Vision-related distress has become just as great a cause for concern among computer users as musculoskeletal problems, including repetitive stress injuries, say two of Canada's leading authorities on Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS).
Dr. Dennis Ruskin B.A., O.D., F.A.A.O. and Dr. Brian S. Feldman, B.Sc., O.D. presented results of an extensive study at the 7th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction in San Francisco. The study confirmed that vision-related symptoms are equally common to the musculoskeletal disorders that cause productivity losses, increased absenteeism and workplace dissatisfaction among computer users. Similar findings have been corroborated by university studies completed in Oslo, Norway.
"For years, the American Optometric Association has been warning that millions of computer users worldwide may potentially suffer from serious discomfort and productivity problems," explains Dr. Ruskin. "Vision problems alone cost employers, employees and insurance companies over a billion dollars a year in medical care."
The study also debunked popular notions that rest breaks, eye examinations and eyeglasses alone can alleviate the typical symptoms that CVS sufferers experience.
"Just as individual computer users experience different musculoskeletal symptoms, so too each vision problem is unique," said Dr. Feldman. "There are, however, a wide range of economical, preventative and therapeutic solutions that a computer user can self-administer to maximize their overall comfort. When these solutions were implemented in conjunction with changes in the workplace, employee comfort levels increased."
In addition to this study, Drs. Ruskin and Feldman are the authors of A User's Guide to Maximizing Visual Comfort at the Computer, a comprehensive handbook on CVS treatment methods. They have also provided CVS sufferers with a compilation of useful information available on their Web site at http://www.eye2eye.com
